HP’s first attempt at a tablet, the TouchPad, just passed through the FCC today. This means that a commercial launch is imminent.

A leaked document that was discovered early March stated that the TouchPad was expected to launch in June.  Today’s FCC passing confirms that the TouchPad is on schedule for a June release.

The HP TouchPad will bring a new OS to the tablet wars with the majority of tablets being Android based besides the recently released Blackberry Playbook and the popular Apple iPad 2.

The TouchPad will feature a 9.7-inch screen with 1024 x 768 resolution. Its Web OS will be powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor. The TouchPad lacks in the camera field with no rear camera and only a 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera. HP has been gearing up for the release of this tablet by creating the HP Music Store and Movie Store for streaming media to the device.

The WiFi version of the tablet is expected to retail for $499, while the 32GB for $599. I am excited to see another platform of tablets coming to the market to bring new competition and a fresh OS.
